Congress MP Manickam Tagore Accuses PM Modi and BJP MP Anurag Thakur of Misleading Statements in Parliament
Congress MP Manickam Tagore has written to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, alleging that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP MP Anurag Thakur made “factually incorrect, inaccurate, and misleading statements” in the House. Tagore has requested that provisions of direction 115(1) be invoked to address these statements.
Tagore, the MP from Virudhunagar, urged Speaker Birla to initiate proceedings and take appropriate action regarding the alleged falsehoods presented by Modi and Thakur in the House.
In his letter, Tagore highlighted that Prime Minister Modi, in his reply to the Motion of Thanks to the President’s address, claimed that the Congress made a “false promise” of Rs 8,500 per month to women, which was actually conditional upon the party’s victory and government formation.
Tagore also refuted Modi’s assertion that the Congress vote share has declined in 16 states where it contested alone, stating, “This is factually incorrect. The Congress vote share increased in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Karnataka, Telangana, etc.”
Additionally, Tagore termed as “grossly misleading” Modi’s remarks that “no bulletproof jackets [were provided] for the Army during the Congress’ time.” He clarified, “There was a shortage of jackets, not that jackets were not there. Even the police had bulletproof jackets, as seen during the Mumbai attacks.”
Tagore further challenged the prime minister’s claim that the Congress did not provide fighter jets to the Army, pointing out, “We had Jaguar, Mig 29, SU-30, Mirage 2000.”
The Congress MP also addressed alleged inaccuracies in Thakur’s July 1 speech in the Lok Sabha. Thakur had claimed that the Army was not given arms and fighter jets during Congress rule. Tagore countered, “We had Jaguar, Mig 29, SU-30, Mirage 2000. We had nuclear bombs, missiles like Agni, Prithvi, Aakash, Nag, Trishul, and later Brahmos.”
Finally, Tagore labeled as “factually incorrect” Thakur’s remarks that Prime Minister Modi has not taken a single holiday, questioning which category of leave is used for election campaigns.
