Nigel Poh: Young Tech Innovator and App Developer

Nigel Poh, young innovator and founder of Green Infinity, is transforming real-world problems into digital solutions

Early Beginnings in Coding

Nigel Poh’s journey into the world of app development began at the age of 15. A student at Dunman High School, Singapore, Nigel initially learned coding in school but quickly branched out on his own to explore software development. What started as a hobby soon evolved into a passion for building apps that provide practical solutions to everyday problems.

Six Apps Before Graduation

By the time Nigel reached 17, he had already developed six apps, three of which were listed on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. His most well-known creation, iKit, was inspired by an eye examination his grandfather underwent. The app simplifies contrast sensitivity testing, making it easier to store and retrieve test results.

Other apps Nigel developed include Stress Zapper, a stress management tool, and assistMe, a shopping assistant. His ongoing projects, TrackPal and SmartNav, are designed to enhance group communication during travel and provide pedestrian navigation, respectively.

Competitive Edge

Nigel’s app development skills quickly gained recognition. In 2014, he won both the National Software Competition and the i.Code competition, solidifying his place as a young tech innovator. His participation in these competitions marked a turning point in his journey, motivating him to push his skills even further.

Founding Green Infinity

To overcome the challenges of publishing apps, such as covering platform fees and navigating legal requirements, Nigel founded Green Infinity with support from his family. His father helped him set up the company, which now manages the legal and financial aspects of his app development projects.

A Vision for Social ImpactYoungTechLeader

Beyond his personal achievements, Nigel aspires to create a social enterprise aimed at helping children develop and list their own apps. He recognizes that not everyone has the resources or legal support to navigate the complexities of app publishing, and he hopes to bridge that gap for young developers facing financial or legal challenges.

Recognition as a Young Tech Leader

Nigel’s efforts have not gone unnoticed. He was featured as one of Singapore’s Aspiring Tech Leaders at the Young Tech Fest, where he shared his journey and insights. His dedication to technology and innovation continues to inspire those around him, and he remains committed to using his skills to make a difference.

Looking Ahead

At just 17, Nigel has already achieved more than most in the tech world, but his journey is far from over. With a wealth of experience and a clear vision, he is poised to make even greater strides in the future. As he prepares for university, Nigel is excited about the potential of creating new apps and continuing to inspire the next generation of developers.
