Ng Eng Hen was born on December 10, 1958, in Singapore. Growing up in a modest rental flat in Zion Road, he was one of six siblings. Ng attended Anglo-Chinese School and National Junior College before pursuing a medical degree at the National University of Singapore (NUS). He graduated with distinctions in Social Medicine and Public Health and later completed a Master of Medicine in Surgery. His medical training continued with a fellowship in surgical oncology at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center.

Medical Career

Before entering politics, Ng was a respected consultant surgeon at Singapore General Hospital from 1992 to 1997. He then transitioned to private practice at Mount Elizabeth Hospital, specializing in surgical oncology until he entered the political arena in 2001.

Political Career

Ng’s political journey began with his election as a Member of Parliament (MP) for the Bishan-Toa Payoh Group Representation Constituency (GRC) in the 2001 general election, where he won by uncontested walkover.
