Indranee Thurai Rajah was born on April 12, 1963, in Singapore, into a family with a rich legacy of public service. She is the daughter of A. T. Rajah, a former Deputy Commissioner of Police and President of the Singapore National Olympic Council. In January 2003, she was appointed Senior Counsel by Chief Justice Yong Pung How, a testament to her significant contributions to the legal profession.

Political Career

Indranee’s political journey began in the 2001 general election when she joined a six-member People’s Action Party (PAP) team contesting in Tanjong Pagar GRC. After winning, she became the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Tanglin–Cairnhill ward. Following the passing of Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew in March 2015, she represented the Tanjong Pagar–Tiong Bahru ward until the 2015 general election.

In her political roles, Indranee has held various key positions. She served as Deputy Speaker of Parliament from 2006 to 2011 and was appointed Senior Minister of State for Law and Senior Minister of State for Education in 2012. She played a pivotal role in establishing Singapore’s third law school, the SUSS School of Law, and was appointed Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office in 2018.
