The Parentinc, a leading platform in the parent-tech industry, has announced its acquisition of Singapore-based luxury retailer Motherswork. This strategic move positions Motherswork on a fast track to an initial public offering (IPO), aiming to enhance The Parentinc’s comprehensive ecosystem of content, community, and commerce for parents in Southeast Asia.
The acquisition will leverage The Parentinc’s strong online presence to bolster its offline strategy, with plans to expand Motherswork’s physical stores into new markets, including Vietnam. There, Mama’s Choice will act as the exclusive distributor for Motherswork products.
This acquisition comes on the heels of notable IPOs in the mother and baby sector, such as First Cry and Mamaearth, valued at $1.2 billion and $3.75 billion, respectively. The Parentinc’s move signals its intent to rise as a major competitor in the region.
“While we have made significant strides in the online market, 70% of retail in Southeast Asia remains offline. We are eager to be among the successful few to bridge this gap and excited to extend our media solutions to all of Motherswork’s partners,” said Roshni Mahtani Cheung, Group CEO and Founder of The Parentinc.
Founded in 1998, Motherswork has established itself as a prominent omnichannel retailer of luxury mother, baby, and kids’ products, with two stores in Singapore and ten in China, representing over 300 brands. The Parentinc, through its flagship brand TheAsianParent, has garnered millions of users across Southeast Asia with its website and app, alongside successful ventures like Mama’s Choice and Webtretho.
